Can a tiny network attach trigger a daily pass?

Small sessions, big products
Some plans treat any data session as a full day. Others do not.
A tiny network attach can trigger a daily pass on plans that bill any mobile data session on the home SIM. An attach is just the phone joining the network. Even a background sync of a few kilobytes can count. Not every network works that way. Some ignore small probes, or bill registration instead. You cannot tell which from the travel plan label. Read your home roaming rules before you fly.
The short answer
A network attach on a plan that bills any session can start a daily pass, even at about 1KB. Keep data off the home SIM and the back-up switch off. Ask the network how it defines a session.
Why This Matters
The attach feels invisible. The phone checked mail or refreshed a widget. On the wrong plan, that small probe is still a session.
Attach versus registration
A network attach can mean the SIM registering on a tower with no action from you. It can also mean a brief data link opening for a background task. Networks word their triggers differently. Your bill may say daily pass without showing the kilobytes. Support can usually say whether a data session or plain registration started the charge. Cellular data switching can create a session on the home SIM when the travel line drops for a moment. That still counts as the home account if the data left that SIM.
Shrink the chance of a session
Forum posts are not your plan
Someone’s story about “one megabyte” may describe a different network. Your network’s roaming PDF is the document that counts.
Choose the travel eSIM for mobile data. Data roaming on for the travel line, off for the home line. Turn Allow Cellular Data Switching or Auto data switch off. Hold heavy backups until Wi-Fi. Open visual voicemail only when the travel eSIM is the data line and the back-up is off. If their rules say registering alone starts the day, only turning the home line off stops that attach. Data controls are not enough on that plan.
The widget refresh
Hannah lands with data roaming off on the home SIM, and a travel eSIM for maps. A weather widget refreshes through the home line during a one-bar moment, with switching left on. Her network treats any home data as the start of a day. The travel eSIM shows normal map use. She turns the back-up off. She asks support to confirm whether registering alone would have done the same on her plan.

Final Thoughts
Ask how your network defines a session. Then keep the home SIM from starting one.
