Europe eSIM guide
One eSIM across borders, and when a country plan is the better buy
Crossing several European countries on one trip is common, and swapping SIMs at every border is a hassle. A regional Europe eSIM covers many countries at once. This guide explains what it covers, what it costs and when a single-country plan is the smarter choice.
At a glance
- Our widest Europe plan covers 42 countries and territories, including the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Türkiye
- It also covers Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar, which some "EU" plans miss
- Staying in one country? A single-country plan is usually much cheaper
- Day passes are available for Europe too
Which countries are covered?
Our 42-country Europe plan covers Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the Åland Islands, among others. The exact list is shown on every plan, and smaller Europe plans (31 to 35 countries) are also available. Always check that every country on your route is listed before you buy.
Why This Matters
"Europe" means different things to different providers. Switzerland, the UK, Türkiye and the Channel Islands are the ones most often left out.
Regional plan or country plan?
A regional plan costs more than a plan for one country, because it includes roaming rights in dozens of places. As a rule of thumb:
- Visiting one country (a week in Spain, say): buy that country's plan
- Two or three countries: compare a regional plan with buying separate plans
- Four or more countries, or an unplanned route: a regional plan is simpler and often cheaper
How much data for a Europe trip?
Maps, rail apps, messaging and the occasional upload come to around 300–500MB a day for most people. For two weeks across several countries, 5GB is a comfortable starting point. If you stream or work on the move, consider a day pass, which gives a fixed amount of high-speed data each day and then continues at a reduced speed.
Setting it up
1. Check your phone supports eSIM using our compatibility checker.2. Install the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you leave. 3. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line when you arrive. Regional eSIMs always roam, even in your first country.
